At home or in hospital
Where would you like to give birth?
You choose where you give birth, as long as it is medically safe. At home or in HagaZiekenhuis Zoetermeer: we care for you in both places.
Giving birth at home
If you are healthy and your pregnancy is going well, you can give birth at home. You often feel more relaxed in your own surroundings, and that helps labour along. We come to your home and stay until after the birth. A maternity nurse helps us during the birth and afterwards in the first week.
What you need, such as the maternity pack and a raised bed (from 37 weeks at 70 to 80 cm), is listed under what you need.
Outpatient birth in hospital
You can also choose to give birth in HagaZiekenhuis Zoetermeer. We care for you there, just as at home. If all goes well, you usually go home a few hours after the birth.
If you give birth in hospital without a medical reason, you usually pay a personal contribution. The amount differs per health insurer and hospital: check your policy or ask your insurer.
In hospital for a medical reason
Sometimes you need to give birth in hospital, for example because of your medical history or how a previous birth went. Often you can still give birth with us. If more care is needed during pregnancy or labour, the gynaecologist takes over. We will see you again in the first week after the birth.
Pain relief
At home you can use a birth TENS, which you can rent from us. If you want medication for pain, such as an epidural, you go to the hospital. More about pain and relaxation is under preparing.
Changing your mind
You can always change your mind, even once labour has started. We discuss your wishes during your appointments and make a birth plan together.
