Centering Pregnancy
What is Centering Pregnancy?
Centering Pregnancy is an improved form of midwifery care that gives you as much as 17 hours more information, care and preparation than regular care. As a result you experience far less uncertainty during your pregnancy, and you are better prepared for the birth and for parenthood.
During the Centering Pregnancy sessions in your pregnancy you make nice new contacts with women from Zoetermeer and the surrounding area who are due around the same time as you. And once all your babies have been born? There is always someone else awake with a crying baby whom you can ask for advice and who knows exactly how you feel… how nice is that?!
What does a session look like?
There are 10 sessions of 2 hours each. The group consists of 8-10 women and is led by one midwife and a nurse from the HAGA Hospital in Zoetermeer.
The sessions start with the check-ups. Your partner or other people supporting you are welcome to be there too. The check-ups are done by your midwife, but you also take responsibility for them yourself. For example, we teach you to measure your own blood pressure, so that you are actively involved in your own care and health. After the check-ups the group session begins. Each session has a different theme, such as the transition to parenthood, nutrition, the birth and more. Your partner is welcome for the whole of the sessions about the birth.
The first Centering Pregnancy® session starts at around 12 weeks and the last one at around 36 weeks of pregnancy. After the birth there is one final session, to which the brand-new babies are very welcome! Before 12 weeks and after 36 weeks you have individual check-ups, and the scans are separate from the programme. If for any reason you need more check-ups, these can always be scheduled alongside the programme.

Experiences
“At first I really doubted whether Centering Pregnancy was for me; after all, I already had a child and roughly knew what to expect. After the first session I came home and thought: I want to continue with this! There was a pleasant, open and safe atmosphere. At each following session you felt more connected as a group and it became more and more enjoyable. You can share things together and you also learn from the questions of the other pregnant women. I found Centering Pregnancy a very positive experience and would recommend it to everyone!” - Zillah
“Centering Pregnancy was a fantastic experience for me. It not only gave me the chance to learn more about my pregnancy, but also to share experiences with other mothers-to-be. The sessions were informative and enjoyable, and I always felt supported and understood. The combination of medical care and the group dynamic gave me confidence and made me well prepared for the arrival of my little one. I would definitely recommend it to other women looking for a warm, supportive environment during their pregnancy.” -Danique
