Week 02
Ovulation.
About halfway through your monthly cycle, a mature egg is released from your ovaries. From that moment until a few hours later, fertilisation is possible. An egg only lives for 24 hours, and fertilisation has to happen within that time! Fortunately sperm cells live longer, about 72 hours. So if you made love one or two days before ovulation, there may still be living sperm cells that can fertilise the egg. Each ejaculation releases tens to hundreds of millions of sperm cells. They all set off towards that one egg. In the end only a few hundred sperm reach their goal, and at most one gets the chance to enter the egg. That is the moment of conception.
