Week 11

Drawing of your baby in week 11

About the size ofa kiwi

Will it be a boy or a girl? Your baby is now 5.5 cm and 10 grams.

Whether you will have a boy or a girl has been decided since the very start of the pregnancy. But this week the sex organs (the ovaries or the testicles) develop. Besides this important event, a lot more is going on. Your little one is having a big growth spurt. In just one week the baby grows a whole centimetre and doubles in weight! This growth spurt continues until the sixteenth week, after which growth slows down again. The head is still very large in proportion, about as big as the body. The eyelids are now fully formed and cover the whole eye. They stay closed until the seventh month and only open after that. But the whites of the eyes, the iris and the pupil are already where they belong.

Your baby can move well by now and swims happily back and forth through the womb. It is quite possible that your baby is contentedly sucking its thumb!
