Your baby is now 39 cm and 1500 grams.
Your baby is almost finished, and yet it is very important that it stays in the womb for a while longer. The temperature system is not yet well developed, and outside the womb your baby cannot keep itself warm properly yet. Its resistance has not yet been built up enough either, so the risk of infection is still very high. If your baby were born this week, it would have to go straight into an incubator. All this time your little one moves around in the amniotic fluid, of which there is now about 750 cc! To protect the skin against the softening effect of the amniotic fluid, it is covered with a layer of skin grease (vernix). The nerve cells in the brain grow extensions that connect with other nerve cells and so form a network. In boys, the testicles descend around this time.
