Week 38
About the size ofa small watermelon
Your baby is now 48 cm and 3200 grams.
The baby now gains twenty to thirty grams of fat a day. With this it builds up a reserve for the first days after the birth, so that your child can calmly get used to the breast or the bottle without getting too hungry or losing too much weight. The layer of fat under the skin is now so thick that your baby will soon be able to keep its own body at the right temperature. About ten litres of blood a minute now flow past the placenta, full of nutrients for your baby.
