Week 39

Drawing of your baby in week 39

About the size ofa small watermelon

Your baby is now 49 cm and 3300 grams.

If your abdominal wall is not too thick, your partner can now simply put an ear to your belly and hear the heartbeat. The baby is ‘ready to go’ in front of the cervix. The bones are still so supple that they can easily adapt to the shape of the birth canal: thanks to the fontanelles, the openings between the skull bones, the head can become a little narrower during the birth and so come out more easily. During the birth the skull bones slide over each other, which is why the head looks extra oval at first.
