Costs and insurance
Covered by your health insurance
What does your health insurance cover, and which optional extras do you pay for yourself?
Midwifery care is covered by the basic health insurance. You do not pay an excess (eigen risico) for it. This includes:
- all check-ups during your pregnancy;
- the birth at home, or in hospital if there is a medical reason;
- care in the first week after the birth and the postnatal check-up;
- the dating scan and the 20-week scan;
- the 13-week scan, if you take part in the IMITAS study;
- the NIPT.
Optional extras
In addition to the covered care, we offer a few extras. They are not needed for your care: you choose them yourself, and you pay for them yourself. Your supplementary insurance sometimes covers part of the cost; check your policy.

Personal contribution for hospital and maternity care
If you give birth in hospital without a medical reason (outpatient), you usually pay a personal contribution. You also pay a personal contribution per hour for maternity care. The amounts depend on your health insurer: check your policy.
