What to arrange when

Before the first appointment

Call our assistant as soon as you have a positive pregnancy test, to schedule your first appointment.
Let your pharmacy and health insurer know that you are pregnant.
If you would like to take part in Moeders voor Moeders (collecting urine for medicine production), sign up in advance. Phone 088-278 0000 or via the website of Moeders voor Moeders (in Dutch).

After the first appointment

Make an appointment for the dating scan and, if you wish, the NIPT and the 13-week scan.
Have your blood tests done*.
Arrange maternity home care (kraamzorg).
Look into childcare.
Arrange acknowledgement of paternity if you are not married.

After the second appointment

Make an appointment for the 20-week scan.
Look into pregnancy courses, if you are interested.

Around 24 weeks

Sign up for the information evenings, for example the birth preparation course by Kéita and the breastfeeding information evening at HagaZiekenhuis Zoetermeer.

Around 28 weeks

Have you not had the whooping cough vaccination yet? You can get it from 22 weeks, through the JGZ (youth health care service).

Around 32 weeks

Check that your maternity pack is at home.

Around 37 weeks

Make sure your bed is raised on blocks.
Make sure your hospital bag is ready.

* Please note: if you want the NIPT, it is a good idea to wait with the blood tests until after the dating scan, because you will then also receive a form for the NIPT and can have both done at the same time.

Arranging maternity home care (kraamzorg) in Zoetermeer

Apply for maternity home care as soon as you have had your dating scan. Do not wait too long, because the agencies in Zoetermeer often have waiting lists. The maternity carer assists at a home birth. After the birth she comes to your home for about a week: she looks after you and your baby, helps with feeding and gives you tips. How many hours you get and what you pay yourself depends on your insurance.

In Zoetermeer and Benthuizen we work closely with these maternity care agencies. The maternity carer and your own midwife coordinate the care after the birth.
